Five Tips For Finding the Best Gold and Silver Buyer In Massachusetts

1. Never sell your gold or silver to a "mail-in" company. Mail-in
companies have a history of paying very low prices. Once you've sent
them your valuables you've lost control of the situation. They can pay
you virtually whatever they want - and typically it is well below a
reputable dealer.

2. Select two or three local gold and silver buyers especially one
that has been around for a year or more. Call first and inquire as to
how much they pay. Most gold and silver buyers use "pennyweights" as a
form of measure. You should ask how much they pay per pennyweight for
14 kT, 10 kt gold, etc. This way you can compare apples to apples. If
the dealer says " we do not quote over the phone" or "we need to see
your gold to evaluate it", stay away! A reputable dealer will give you
his price for that day over the phone. For silver ask for the price
for sterling silver, 999 silver, etc.

3. At the store(s) you've selected, check to see if the dealer's scale
is certified by the local town or county department of weights and
measures. This assures that you are being paid fairly for your gold
and silver.

4. If your gold is not marked "10 karat, 14 karat, etc." the dealer is
able to test your gold to determine the proper karat. Gold may be
tested in one of several ways, but the most common is with an acid test
or electronically. Either of these methods will give the dealer and
you an accurate reading as to the karat of your gold.

5. Do not sell your gold or silver at so-called gold parties. You are
part of a captive audience and there is pressure to cooperate. Dealers
who buy at these parties pay less because you are not in a position to
compare. The party host generally receives a payment from the dealer
for the gold purchased; thereby decreasing how much you receive.
